about

i found a journal i wrote around the age of 17 and wrote this song. it is partly about the may bank holiday fair held in redland, bristol, every year and partly about old friends and partly about the pandemic.

lyrics

there’s been something water
there’s been friction in the air
i’ve been smiling as i pass you
you’ve been less and less aware

and i feel the constant tugging
of the networks left behind
i remember stopping often
while you talked, you were so kind

wrote about it in my journal
thoughts that i swiftly forgot
how annoyed i was in redland
1st of may and very hot

i remember laughing often
i remember writing songs
now untethered to the past i
forgot where those thoughts belong

must be something in the water
making recollections clear
smiling nervously at strangers
more connected i appear

to be writing out of something
far away and long ago
friction lies between the last words
there they hang and there they go
